  • Cardiac ICU - The CICU has a dedicated charge nurse who acts as a resource nurse. Patients with complex cardiac medical, AMI, Code STEMI and arrhythmia conditions are treated here, all within a brand-new, state-of-the-art patient tower. Based on APACHE ratings, our CICU has one of the lowest mortality rates for AMI patients in the nation and one of the lowest LOS for these patients. Nurses on the unit gain exposure to IABP, Neuromuscular Blockade, CRRT, cooling patients after cardiac arrest, BIS monitoring and pseudo-aneurysm repair and the nurse to patient ratio is 1:1 or 1:2.
  • Cardiac Respiratory Care Unit - With one of the largest cardiac catheterization labs in the country, this 20-bed unit is dedicated to the care of stable trached patients who need special attention to be weaned from the ventilator. We also treat stable cardiac medical and surgical patients with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:2 or 1:3.
  • Cardiovascular ICU - This 28-bed unit cares for over 2,000 cardiac surgery patients each year. We serve as a cardiovascular tertiary center for all of Central Florida, with an emphasis on CABG, valve repairs and replacements, thoraco-abdominal aortic aneurysms and AAA. Special therapies supported by this unit include IABP, CRRT and ventricular assist devices. We treat other vascular surgeries, heart and lung transplantation, as well as various thoracic surgeries. Nurse to patient ratio on this unit is 1:1 or 1:2.
  • Vascular Thoracic ICU - This is a 20-bed surgical acute care cardiac unit that utilizes ventilators, CRRT, oscillators, paralytics and thoracic lumbar drains to support post-procedure treatment for endo AAA, open AAA, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass and thoracotomy patients. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:1-3.
  • Cardiac Intervention Unit - Nurses on this 40-bed unit focus on PCU-level medical cardiology and post-cardiac intervention patients, and have exposure to cutting-edge technologies like stem cell therapy and arterial and venous sheaths for angioplasty, arthrectomy, stent deployment, EPS and pharmacologic interventions. All RNs will be Sheath Certified. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:3 or 1:4.
  • Cardiovascular PCU - Our 40-bed CVPCU treats post-op open heart, vascular surgery and thoracotomy patients with special therapies such as post-op incision care and education, as well as aggressive ambulation therapy. Nurse to patient ratio on this unit is 1:3 or 1:4.
  • Chest Pain Observation Unit - The 45-bed CPOU is a fast-paced outpatient cardiac monitored unit caring for post diagnostic catheterization and post electrophysiology study patients, as well as chest pain patients who do not meet inpatient criteria for admission. Knowledge in the care of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients is required, which includes evidence-based medicine protocols. The average length of stay for our patients is 13-24 hours. We assist with all cardiac related admissions as needed when patient volumes exceed inpatient bed capacity.
  • Congestive Heart Failure/Pulmonary Hypertension Unit - This highly specialized 40-bed, PCU-level unit performs aquapheresis, Tikosyn therapy and LVADs (intended as a bridge for transplant or destiny therapy) for CHF, pulmonary hypertension, pre-heart or lung transplant patients.
