Our Critical Care team is diverse in talent and culture, working across several sophisticated subspecialties with a focus on excellence in holistic caring. Our nurses are adeptly skilled in supporting all of our patients’ physiological, spiritual and emotional needs. We work as a cohesive team - learning from each other and growing with training, research, Nurse Practice Council and committee membership opportunities.
ICU
The ICU cares for patients requiring hemodynamic and cardiac monitoring, and other intensive treatments such as acute ventilatory support and continuous vasoactive infusions. Monitoring includes central venous pressure, pulmonary artery catheters, arterial lines, cardiac monitors and pulse oximetry. We do utilize a primary care model; our nurse to patient ratio is 1:2 or 1:1 (depending on acuity). The ICU offers 12-hour shifts, requiring every other weekend, occasional call and floating to like units.
PCU
Patients on this 19-bed unit can range from 18-100 years of age, diagnoses of CHF, pneumonia and abdominal pain (most with comorbidities). The PCU will also handle post-op patients who need telemetry. Nurses are skilled in the support of all physiological, spiritual, and emotional needs of the patient. Nurse to patient ratio is 1:5 (days) or 1:6 (nights), with the resourceful support of patient care technicians.
PCU nurses must be comfortable delegating and educating, able to communicate effectively, and willing to work two weekends per month.
Surgical Progressive Care
This 36-bed unit treats all ages of adults, most being diagnosed with chest pain, CHF, pneumonia or abdominal pain (often with comorbidities). The unit also sees post-op patients that are in need of higher levels of care. Case management and pastoral services are readily available. Monitor techs and patient care techs provide additional support.
PCU Step-Down
We are a fast-paced, 36-bed medical PCU that works with high-turnover adult and geriatric patients. A team philosophy drives everything we do, and we are fortunate to have access to pain, wound and diabetes resource nurses. Our nurse to patient ratio is 1:4 (days) and 1:5 (nights). Holiday and weekend shifts required.
