These training programs are designed for graduate and experienced nurses who want
to expand their careers into new specialty areas. Each program offers in-depth education,
practical knowledge and the precepted clinical experience necessary for success.
Medical/Surgical
Programs are offered at all Florida Hospital campuses for Medical Psychiatry, Oncology,
Diabetes, Pediatrics, Orthopaedics, Neurology and Stroke Management.
Experienced RNs: 6 weeks; GNs: 11 weeks.
Critical Care
Programs are offered at all Florida Hospital campuses for Intensive Care (ICU) and
Progressive Care (PCU).
Critical Care PCU – Experienced RNs: 11 weeks; GNs: 15 weeks.
Critical Care ICU – Experienced RNs: 11 weeks; GNs: 19 weeks.
Emergency Department
This program is offered at all Florida Hospital campuses and blends Critical Care
training with an Emergency focus.
Experienced RNs: 11 weeks; GNs: 19 weeks.
Oncology
This program is currently offered at Florida Hospital Orlando, Altamonte, Celebration
and Winter Park, and consists of combined classroom and clinical training. During
the program, nurses will learn to care for critically ill hematology/oncology patients.
ONC – Experienced RNs: 10 weeks; GNs: 11 weeks.
ONC PCU – Experienced RNs: 10 weeks; GNs: 15 weeks.
BMTU – Experienced RNs: 10 weeks; GNs: 15 weeks.
Operating Room
The Operating Room Nurse Internship Program (ORNIP) is a program that includes didactic
training and clinical training. The goal is for nurses to learn the circulation
and scrub roles in various surgical specialties.
Experienced OR RNs: 2-8 weeks, individualized based on experience.
Experienced RNs with no OR experience: 6 months.
GNs: 6 months.
Pediatric
This program offers both didactic and precepted clinical training for nurses with
a Medical/Surgical or other applicable acute care background.
Peds – Experienced RNs: 10 weeks; GNs: 11 weeks.
Peds PCU – Experienced RNs: 10 weeks; GNs: 15 weeks.
Peds ICU – Experienced RNs: 11 weeks; GNs: 19 weeks.
Perinatal
This program delivers a combination of didactic and clinical education for nurses
who have experience in Mother-Infant or Ante-Partum High-Risk. Training is provided
for both Perinatal and Labor & Delivery specialties.
L&D – Experienced RNs: 11 weeks; GNs: 19 weeks.
High Risk – Experienced RNs: 10 weeks; GNs: 15 weeks.
Mother/Baby – Experienced RNs: 10 weeks; GNs: 11 weeks.
NICU – Experienced RNs: 11 weeks; GNs: 19 weeks.
