This facility houses a 10-bed Critical Care Unit, serving all medical conditions and surgeries with the exception of Open Heart and Neurosurgery. Average length of stay on this large and spacious unit is 4-5 days for ICU patients and 2-4 days for PCU patients.
Nurses have individual assignments, but work with the philosophy that all Critical Care patients belong to all unit nurses. The patient ratio is 1:2 on days and nights in the ICU, and the PCU patient ratio is 1:5 on days and nights. All documentation is computerized on a new proprietary system called I-Extend. There is a secretary/monitor tech that supports the unit with remote telemetry monitoring and orders.
The ICU team responds to the Rapid Response Team calls in a fast and efficient manner. Floating may be required between the ICU and PCU like units based on census. To qualify for the ICU, nurses must be ACLS-certified, with the ability to work every other weekend. Previous ICU experience is definitely preferred. We seek nurses who are telemetry trained, with the ability to work every other weekend. Previous PCU experience preferred. Throughout our Critical Care Unit, we’re looking for team players who are able to adapt to an ever-changing environment in a positive manner.
This unit offers a cohesive, family-like atmosphere that provides a positive experience for patients and staff alike. Leadership recognizes the initiative and efforts of the team, and fosters a nurturing environment where employees can feel trust, hope and belonging. There is also an opportunity to participate in Nurse Practice Council projects that will improve care delivery and help the unit achieve Magnet status.
