• Orthopaedic Institute
Our campus is also home to the Florida Hospital Orthopaedic Institute, a state-of-the-art, 31-bed facility renowned for progressive medical programs and innovative approaches to new ideas.
We are widely regarded as having one of the top orthopaedic programs in the nation, performing more surgeries than any other hospital in Florida. Among those surgeries was the very first total knee replacement and arthroscopic surgery in the state. Today, we are a preferred provider for patients over the age of 65. In fact, serving this patient population has made Florida Hospital the number one Medicare hospital in the United States for hip, knee and shoulder procedures.
Top orthopaedic nurses work alongside leading orthopaedic physicians, specialty orthopaedic surgical teams, radiologists and therapists to provide the best of care in the most advanced treatment protocols available anywhere. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:5 (days) and 1:6 (nights), with the added support of patient care techs and health unit coordinators.
• Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit
This is a 20-bed unit featuring semi-private rooms and functioning as a “hospital within a hospital.” All admissions are prescreened and planned, and must meet criteria to be accepted into the program including medical stability, the ability to tolerate three hours of therapy daily and have a solid discharge plan.
Our caring staff treats patients suffering from neurological diseases/injury including CVA, TBI and brain tumors among other diagnoses which limit a patient’s ability to return home. The average length of stay is 7-14 days. Our nurses get to know the patients on this unit and work closely with a staff of neuropsychology, PT, OT, RT, speech and case management as well patient care techs. The nurse to patient ratio is 1:5 (days) and 1:6 (nights).
