Winter Park Memorial Hospital, a Florida Hospital, is home to the Florida Cancer Institute, which serves more cancer patients than any other health system in Florida. We provide a comprehensive continuum of services ranging from disease prediction and prevention to state-of-the-art detection, treatment and research. Patients have convenient access to the latest in medical and radiation oncology, patient support and education programs, and a dedicated team of highly-qualified physicians and certified oncology nurses. But perhaps the most important thing we can provide is the psychological and spiritual support of a true healing ministry.

Our campus also houses a Specialty Care Unit (SCU) for inpatient oncology needs, as well as telemetry and other special treatments. Nurses assigned to the unit become Chemotherapy certified, with many also going on to be active in the Oncology Nurses Society and Nurse Practice Council. As such, SCU has representation on the pain committee, wound team, and the system-wide oncology collaborative practice committee.

SCU nurses work with a primary nursing model, or with a PCT, handling a nurse to patient ratio of 1:5 (days) and 1:6 (nights). The unit is staffed on 12-hour shifts, which require nurses to work every other weekend, take occasional call and float as census demands.
