The Medical/Surgical unit is comprised of 23 private rooms dedicated to serving the stable medical patient, with an emphasis on the special needs of isolation and cystic fibrosis patients. We take a structured team approach to care, with regular shift-change meetings and periodic huddles. Communication is vital to taking the best care of our patients and each other.

The MSU staff consists of registered nurses, patient care techs, nurse techs and health unit coordinators. Each shift has an assistant nurse manager or charge nurse available as a resource to the staff. Nurses who excel here are those who have a positive attitude and want to learn and grow as part of solid team. Willingness to float and take call also required.

We have been very successful with integrating new grads and international nurses into our unit. MSU even has a dedicated certified preceptor for our international nurses, which has proven important during the transition to U.S. nursing and our particular facility. Many of our nurses are also climbing the clinical ladder and are able to provide advanced support in areas such as diabetes, infection control, wound care, and pain control.
