Florida Hospital Kissimmee operates a fast-paced, 61-bed, telemetry capable Medical/Surgical Unit with an average length of stay of 2-4 days. Patient population represents all medical conditions and surgeries with the exception of Open Heart and Neurosurgery.
The unit is divided into two wings, and nurses are expected to float between these wings based on daily census:
• North Wing
Consists of primarily inpatient medical patients, with some 23-hour medical observation patients. The North Wing has capacity for 43 beds.
• South Wing
Serves mostly surgical patients and 23-hour surgical observations, with a maximum capacity of 20 patients.
Med/Surg uses a Team Model approach featuring 2-3 nurses and tech support, to serve a patient ratio that is 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights. All documentation is computerized on a new proprietary system called I-Extend. This unit also provides for a hands-on assistant nurse manger, unit secretary and monitor tech.
We seek nurses who are telemetry trained, with the ability to work every other weekend. Our fast-paced unit also demands that we hire team players who can adapt to an ever-changing environment in a positive manner. Previous Med/Surg experience is preferred, but not required.
As in other specialties here at Florida Hospital Kissimmee, leadership recognizes the initiative and efforts of the team, and fosters a nurturing atmosphere where employees can feel trust, hope and belonging. There is also an opportunity to participate in Nurse Practice Council projects that will improve care delivery and help the unit achieve Magnet status.
