Disney Children’s Hospital at Florida Hospital

Disney Children’s Hospital at Florida Hospital has the distinction of being the preferred provider for nearly half of all children in our tri-county area of Central Florida, to include inpatient, outpatient, emergency and urgent care. As our community grows so does our campus, with a $65-million expansion project that will be completed in 2010. But perhaps most exciting of all, is that this is the first – and only – hospital to bear the Disney name.

The enhanced Disney Children’s Hospital will have a total of 200 pediatric beds, an Advanced Center for Pediatric Surgery, destination pediatric sub-specialty programs, and an innovative health and obesity platform. The facility will also house a 10,000 square-foot dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department, with nine private treatment rooms and the latest in interactive child-friendly ambient technology. There will also be a fantastic new lobby designed by Walt Disney Imagineering, bedside Internet and gaming systems for patients and parents, and many playrooms and family amenities.

Every advancement and opportunity here is designed to enhance the well-being and speedy recovery of our pediatric patients, within a special healing environment. Our 60-member team of “Kid’s Docs,” along with highly educated case managers, social workers and child life specialists, is integral to our ability to provide holistic care that nurtures the young spirit. Each life is precious to God, and we minister to children and families with that premise in mind.

This is a particularly important differentiator when our patients are faced with a serious illness. As a “hospital within a hospital,” we have access to some of the most sophisticated resources available today and are Central Florida’s only pediatric provider for bone marrow transplant, kidney transplant, Gamma Knife services, trilogy radiation and Level III epilepsy care. The Florida Hospital Cancer Institute’s Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases is a National Children’s Oncology Group (COG) member, involved in leading-edge research and clinical trails.

Each year, employees at the Children’s Hospital deliver nearly 10,000 babies, treat 65,000 kids in need of emergency care, nurture 1,200 in our NICU, help 55,000 during urgent care visits and perform 25,000 outpatient surgeries/procedures. The extent of specialized pediatric care that you can practice here is truly outstanding.

Our community’s future is yours to explore. Some of our other highlighted features here at “the Children’s Hospital of the Future” include:
