Located in the town of Celebration, just outside the Walt Disney World entertainment complex, this is the busiest Emergency Department in Osceola County. We’re a 28-bed unit that is fully equipped to treat the 50,000 patients (including 13,000 children) that we see annually. Due to proximity of the tourist attractions, we have many international guests. Communication is key to success here, and is accomplished thanks to a team-oriented staff that works well together and enjoys the challenge of a fast-paced ED.
Florida Hospital Celebration Health offers the three levels of ED care - acute, intermediate and fast-track - separate treatment areas for minor and major emergencies. As many as 50% of our patients are intermediate or fast-track treatment and leave the department in less than 200 minutes. The ED is supported by a unit secretary, technical care staff, a nurse educator, two assistant nurse managers, one nurse manager and a director.
Consistent with our mission to extend the healing ministry of Christ, we have created a healing spiritual environment in our design and décor. An example of this is our soothing "Barrier Reef" CT and "Manatee" X-ray rooms. Throughout their experience, patients are ensured more privacy and less noise, along with the best resources available.
The unit includes 21 monitored beds, digital diagnostic imaging, a dedicated CT, and four EKG machines for the immediate treatment of chest pain patients. Florida Hospital Celebration Health is proud to have been recognized by Premier Inc. Healthcare Alliance as a winner of the Premier Award for Quality in the area of heart failure.
Other sophisticated technologies in the department include Philips bedside monitors, the availability of wireless telemetry, readily available spot check vital signs, SPO2, procedural devices, Zoll defibrillators, and Broselow Pediatric carts for pediatric resuscitation. Cerner electronic documentation is also present on the unit.
Along with advancing technology, the ED is equally committed to advancing careers. Orientation here is individualized, normally lasting four to six weeks. In addition, we offer a 10-week interactive online ED nurse internship program, along with preceptor and BSN/MSN support.
The department also encourages participation in professional nurse practice committees and unit-based process improvement projects.
Nurses here enjoy flexible staffing schedules, with eight and 12-hour shifts available (7am-7pm, 10am-10pm, 11am-7pm and 3am-3pm). Rotating weekends are required, and we do prefer professionals with ACLS, CEN, TNCC and PALS certifications.
