The Med/Surg area is divided into two distinct areas where you can do the best work of your life.
• Surgical Unit 3 East
This newly renovated inpatient surgical unit has 39 private beds dedicated to general surgical, orthopaedic and medical overflow patients, with an average length of stay of 3.45 days. We utilize computerized charting and a modified primary care model with patient care tech support, resulting in a nurse to patient ratio of 1:5 (7am-7pm) or 1:6 (7pm-7am).
The staff on 3 East consists of a nurse manager, three assistant nurse managers, 44 registered nurses, eight patient care techs, five nurse techs, and five health unit coordinators. New nurses with Med/Surg experience receive a two-week precepted orientation, while graduate nurses enter an eight-week program. Full-time and part-time employees are required to work every other weekend, to include floating on a rotation basis.
• Medical Unit 6 West
With 35 private beds, this unit cares for general medical patients, with an average length of stay of four days. We utilize computerized charting and a team nursing approach with patient care techs available on the unit. Our nurse to patient ratio is 1:5 (7am-7pm) or 1:6 (7pm-7am).
The staff on 6 West consists of a nurse manager, an assistant nurse manager, four charge nurses, 31 registered nurses, eight patient care techs, five nurse techs, and three health unit coordinators, along with a mentor who is available four days per week (11am– 9pm). This unit also has its own medical director who helps to encourage communication between the physicians and nurses.
Full-time and part-time employees are required to work every other weekend, to include floating on a rotation basis.
